Ms. Lou Ethel Smith, 73, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Sunday September 10, 2023. Lou Ethel was born on October 8, 1942, to the late William and Mozelle Smith, one of seven children born to her parents. Two brothers preceded her in death William, Jr. And Hugh. Lou exhibited her family pursuit of education by graduating from Baptist Hill High School in 1969. She went on to enroll in Job Corps where she concentrated on secretarial studies. Upon completion of her studies, Lou moved to Washington, DC and secured a job working with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare for 39 years. Upon her retirement, Lou moved back to Charleston.
Lou never met a stranger. She was a kind, compassionate and loving person, helpful to all she met that needed assistance. Lou was a great helper of the Lowcountry Food Bank, joyful and loving to everyone.
Lou Ethel grew up in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Youngs Island, SC. It was here, her giving and compassionate and Christ-like Spirit was developed. Lou was an avid reader and a lover of history; she loved watching football and doing crossword puzzles in her spare time.
Family was important to Lou Ethel and in her last days. her sister Marie and Daisy were by her side, helping and encouraging.
The relatives and friends are invited to the Home-Going Celebration Saturday, September 16, 2023, 11 AM, in Murray's Mortuary Hollywood Chapel, 7173 Highway 162, Hollywood, SC 29449. There is a walk-through 5PM-7PM, Friday, September 15, 2023, in Murray's Mortuary Hollywood Chapel.
The memories of Lou Ethel will always be dear to the hearts of her beloved sisters and brothers; Mrs. Rutha Jenkins (Bishop Elvie R. Jenkins, Sr.) of Augusta, GA; Ms. Daisy Bell Moultrie of Charleston, SC; Mr. Herman Smith of North Charleston; Mrs. Marie Meggett (Percy) Edisto Island, SC and Isaac Smith (Bethena) of Hoschton, GA; nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law Betty Smith and Karen Smith, other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving at 78 Ashley Rivers Plantation Rd, North Charleston, SC, 29407.
*In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Ms. Smith's favorite charity, The Lowcountry Foodbank of Allen AME Church, 8060 Botany Bay Road, Edisto Island, SC, 29438
