Mrs. Elizabeth Heyward Morrisey was born July 10, 1946 in Charleston South Carolina to Annabelle and Henry Heyward. She was the sixth of 12 children. She was the wife of the late Glenwood Morrisey, Sr.
Elizabeth Morrisey relocated to New York City after she graduated from Baptist Hill High School in June of 1965. It was in college that she met and married her husband, Mr. Glenwood Morrisey. Out of this union two children were born: Glenwood Morrisey, Jr. and Michael Morrisey, Sr.
Elizabeth Morrisey was a dedicated hard worker. She was employed as a school teacher for the Board of Education, City of New York.
Elizabeth gave her life to Christ at an early age where she attended Ani Estate Baptist in Hollywood, SC. In May 1984, she joined The Bible Church of Christ in the Bronx, NY. Over the years, she served as: an Ordained Missionary, a Choir Member of The Voices of the Chapel Choir, President of the Encouragement Team, a Consecrated Teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class. On a few occasions she served as Chairperson of the Women’s Day Committee. She was also known as an excellent cook. She was especially known for her fried chicken.
Elizabeth Morrisey loved her family and loved attending church services; she was an active member and served faithfully.
She attended The Bible Church of Christ Theological Institute – completing the following courses: Evangelism, Christian Workers, General Bible, Teachers Training, Post-Graduate in Theology and Advanced Pedagogy. She received a Bachelor and a Master degree in Theology from these studies.
She also received an Associate degree in Applied Science from Bronx Community College in June 1987, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Herbert H. Lehman College in June 1992 and a Master of Science degree in Education from Long Island University in September 1995.
Sister Morrisey was a strong independent woman and took care of her two children even after the untimely death of her husband. She maintained her independence throughout the years and did everything for herself and did everything her way.
Elizabeth completed her earthly journey on January 3, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenwood Morrisey, Sr.; her mother and father, Annabelle and Henry Heyward, Sr.; three brothers: Sam, Joseph, and Charles Heyward; and two sisters: Esther Dent & Celia Heyward.
She leaves a rich legacy to cherish her precious memories: her two children, Glenwood Morrisey, Jr. and Michael Morrisey, Sr.; one Grandson, Michael Morrisey, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Tenika Fox-Morrisey; brothers, Robert, Richardine, and Henry Heyward, Jr.; sister, Mary and Frank Linen; sister, Beulah and Ronald Mitchell; sister, Loretta White, sister, Delores and James Evans along with a host of nieces and nephews, friends and of course her “The Bible Church of Christ” family.
