God called Elizabeth “Liz” Taylor Lemon home on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. She died peacefully at her residence after a brief illness.
Liz, as she was affectionately known, was born on December 6, 1946 and was the only child of Wesley and Martha White Taylor. She was baptized at Wesley United Methodist Church where she was a member for many years. She would later join Washington United Methodist Church before leaving to support her son-in-law when he formed Lighthouse Christian Center. She was a founding member of Lighthouse and served dutifully on the finance committee.
She was a 1965 graduate of Burke High School. In 1971, she married Russell Lemon and to that union two daughters were born. She retired from the Department of Social Services and spent the most years at Marion Stroble Daycare Center. She continued to care for children (everyone’s children) whether at her home or at other establishments. She would later work for the Dorchester District 2 School District in the afterschool program. Her caregiving was not just limited to the young as she spent several years also serving as a nurse’s aide and / or med tech.
Upon retirement she enjoyed her exercise classes and the fellowship she shared with her neighbors. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and was always a reassuring presence at their many functions and activities. She fully encouraged their “over the top” personalities.
Liz’s sweet and humble nature earned her the trust of many. Her home was always a welcoming place. She did not tolerate negativity as she always said there is always something to be thankful for. An animal lover, she had a knack for picking the pets that only an owner could love. Her latest project is Tippy, a Maine Coon, with a prescription for anxiety meds.
Her family will miss most her text messages, inside jokes she shared with each of us, macaroni, cornbread dressing, crafts, listening ear and guiding presence.
Liz, Ms. Liz, Auntie Liz, momma, granny, Mimi, fairy godmother, you will be missed!
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Angela “Ann” Lemon.
She will be deeply missed and survived by daughter, Carolyn Graham (Byron); adopted daughter, Raquel Simone Smith; stepson, Phillip Glenn (Pat); loving granddaughters, Jordyn and Reagyn Graham; cousin, Mary L. White; and a host of other devoted relatives and friends.
