Mrs. Thelma Washington Payne, 91, of Fredericksburg, SC, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from natural causes. She was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Murray's Mortuary - North Charleston Chapel, 4060 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 67 Anson Street, Charleston, SC 29401. The committal will take place at a later date.

A repast will follow at 2:00 PM at Sunsetter Lodge, 3001 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.

Thelma was born on December 17, 1932, the eldest child of Theodore and Louise Washington. She graduated from Avery High School, Class of 1950, and attended St. Augustine College. After dedicating 20 years of service as a Supervisory Computer Operator at the Department of Navy, Naval Supply Center, Charleston, SC, she retired to focus on her family and passions.

A woman of many talents, Thelma enjoyed singing, playing the piano, dancing, and cherishing time with her loved ones. Her joy, warmth, and outgoing personality left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

She is survived by her loving children:  Annette Payne Brewer (Paul), Lynette Payne Washington (John), Keith Joseph Payne (Kim), Faye Simmons (Reggie), LaTrice Payne Spruill (Larry), and James Maxwell Payne Jr., along with their families; two siblings: Charles Washington (Rosemary) and Kenneth Washington (Laura); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Thelma's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
