Ms. Mary Virginia Neal Hix, 97, of Summerville, SC, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

The relatives and friends of Ms. Mary Virginia Neal Hix are invited to attend her Home-Going Service on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM in Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal Church, 13 Morris Street, Charleston, SC. Interment - Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive, North Charleston, SC. A public viewing will be held Friday, January 9, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Murray's Mortuary - North Charleston Chapel, 4060 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. She will lie-in-state on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of service on Saturday; there will be no viewing after the service.

She was preceded in death by her son, Nathaniel R. Hix; and her parents, Robert Charles Neal and Jenima Bing Neal.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  three children, Charles R. Walker (Alice Walker), Yvonne V. Julks, and Linda M. Atkinson; seven grandchildren, Robert C. Walker Sr. (Valerie Walker), Tamar Hyatt (Terry Hyatt, Sr.), LaTonya Walker, Quincy L. Walker, Shawn R. Hix, Natalie Gugsa (Asmelash Gugsa), and Nathaniel R. Hix, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Robert C. Walker, Jr., Amber Walton, Terry Hyatt, Jr., Nelson White (Corine White), Yezi Gugsa, Manny Gugsa, and Abby Gugsa;  one great- great -granddaughter, Cianna Grace White; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
