The relatives and friends of Deacon David Samuel Washington are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 12:00 NOON in Destiny Worship Center, 3625 Azalea Drive, North Charleston, SC with Reverend Larry Goss, Sr., Pastor, Reverend Lawrence Bratton, Officiating and Reverend Dr. Bernard Brown, Sr., Eulogist. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2915 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC. A public viewing will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Murray's Mortuary - North Charleston Chapel, 4060 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC.

Deacon David Samuel Washington, a beacon of faith and devotion, departed this earthly life on April, 13, 2024 at the age of 91, leaving behind a rich legacy of service, love, and dedication to his family, community, and country. Born on December 27, 1934 (later discovered to be 1932) in Ocilla, Georgia, Deacon Washington was the beloved son of the late Ed Washington and Annie Eliza Dixon Washington.

Deacon Washington's formative years were marked by a commitment to education and spirituality. He attended Irvin County Public Schools in Ocilla, Georgia, where he laid the foundation for a life guided by faith and integrity. At an early age, he joined the New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Coverdale, Georgia, where he was baptized and nurtured in the teachings of Christ.

On August 20, 1955, David married the love of his life, the late Bernice Phillips. Together, they shared a bond of love and companionship that lasted for 66 years, blessed with the joy of three children. Their union was a testament to the enduring power of love, faith, and mutual respect.

Deacon Washington's commitment to service extended beyond his family and church into a distinguished career in the United States Military. Serving over 27 years in various administrative positions, he exemplified the values of honor, duty, and sacrifice. His service included an isolated tour in Korea and assignments in several states and countries, culminating in his arrival in Charleston, SC, in December 1974 from the Philippines Islands, where he served his final assignment before retirement.

Upon retiring from the Air Force, Deacon Washington embarked on a new chapter of his professional life, joining JC Penney as a Loss Prevention Regional Manager. For 25 years, he traveled tirelessly to JC Penney stores across South Carolina and North Carolina, where he worked diligently to safeguard the company's assets, investigating, preventing, and minimizing theft, fraud, and inventory shrinkage.

In addition to his corporate endeavors, Deacon Washington was an entrepreneur at heart. As the owner of Washington Cleaning Services, he served his community with pride and dedication for over two decades, leaving a lasting impact on all those he encountered.

Deacon Washington was a devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late JS Simmons and later New Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Arthur White, where he served on the Deacon Board and chaired it with distinction. Deacon Washington love for his church, family, community, and country was evident in all aspects of his life.

Deacon Washington was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice P. Washington, and two of his children, Samuel Donnel and Kenneth Leonard. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, James Washington, Cleo Washington, Arthur Washington, Ronnie Washington, Leron Washington, Pauline Parker, Jewel Hamilton, Mandy Lou Cobb, Georgia Washington, Annie Lee Neal, Eddie Will King, Shedrick Dixon, Grady Dixon, and Buddy Dixon.

He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his daughter, Honorable Dr. Stephanie Ganaway-Pasley (James L. Pasley, Jr.); his only grandchild, Aaron David Ganaway; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Though he may have departed this earthly realm, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide those whose lives he touched. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his life was a shining example of goodness, humility and grace.
