Obituary

Ms. Carol Veronica Atterberry, 62, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Ms. Carol Veronica Atterberry, born on July 15, 1962, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories. She was the beloved daughter of Rose King and the late Clarence Atterberry.

Carol was educated in the Gettysburg Public Schools in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she exhibited an extraordinary commitment to her studies. Her dedication was recognized upon graduation when she was honored for maintaining perfect attendance throughout her high school career.

Following her graduation, Carol moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, where she built a fulfilling career with Giant Foods. As a dedicated salad bar associate, she served her community with pride and commitment, holding the position until her retirement.

Carol had a deep love for her family, especially her nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She found great joy in music and dancing, often filling her days dancing in her house and experimenting with cooking and creating new dishes. She also had a passion for exploring downtown Charleston, South Carolina, discovering new restaurants, and taking long walks through the city's streets, appreciating its beauty and charm.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Atterberry; grandparents, Ida Mae Smith, Robert King, and Georgia A. Holman; daughter, Alicia Eddington; and brothers, Clarence King and Matthew Nathan, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Rose Bolton James (Samuel); her daughter, Anastasia Eddington; her siblings, Queen Atterberry Gardner (Reginal), Dorita Howard (Frank), Jeanette Bamberg (Ronnie), Rose Atterberry Pulliam (Tony), Vickie Frederick (Marvin), and Jerome Johnson; along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Carol's life was filled with warmth, kindness, and an appreciation for the simple joys of life. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
