Carl William
Simpson
Apr 15, 1938 — Jan 7, 2025
Charleston
CARL WILLIAM SIMPSON, son of the late Marion Simpson and Jennie Gibson Simpson, was born on April 15, 1938, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was called to his eternal home on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Roper Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina.
Carl professed his faith at an early age, and was a faithful and dedicated member of Greater St. Luke A.M.E Church. He regularly displayed acts of generosity and kindness.
Mr. Simpson attended Immaculate Conception before later graduating from Burke High School. He also took some classes at South Carolina State before moving to New York City.
"Pawpaw" as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, had a genuine love to help anyone that was in need, especially family members. Carl began his career in New York City working for his late brother Dr. Merton Simpson until later becoming the manager of Zales Diamond District Headquarters in Manhattan. After moving back to Charleston to help with his mother, he became an educator at C.A. Brown High School, positively affecting the lives of many youths on Charleston's East Side. He retired in the early 80's and enjoyed spending time with his family and observing politics.
Carl was the devoted husband of the late Deloris Porcha Simpson. He will be sadly missed by one son Carlton (Kasonya) Simpson; one daughter Keisha Simpson; his grandchildren Carson and Karlah Simpson. Five sisters-in-law, two brother -in- laws; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by eight siblings Marian Simpson Maybank, Alexander Simpson, Sr. Miller Simpson, Althea Simpson Harbour, Dr. Merton Simpson, Margaret Simpson Randolph, Patsy Simpson Johnson, and Peggy Simpson.
