Elder Thomas James Washington, 83, of North Charleston, SC, widower of the late First Lady Marjorie J. Washington and Pastor of New St. John Holiness Church, North Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Monday September 2, 2019.
The relatives and friends of Elder Thomas James Washington are invited to attend his Funeral Service 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Evening of Prayer Church of God in Christ, 2361 Spruill Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Interment - 10:00 AM, Monday, September 9, 2019 - Sunset Memorial Gardens, North Charleston, SC. Wake Service will be held Friday, September 6, 2019 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at New St. John Holiness Church, 2026 Riverview Avenue, North Charleston, SC.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kearney Washington, two sisters, Rosa Mae Boyd and Letrist Washington Richardson; two grandchildren, Tyeisha Washington and Jean J. Jaques, Jr.; and one great-grandson, Antonio G. Finley.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Sarah W. Collins and her children (Cardos Washington, Herlice Collins, Athana Collins, Elias Collins, and Nanthale Collins) all of Brooklyn, NY; his children, Judy A. Grant (Jake), Vera M. Mitchell (Ronnie), Ernie L. Washington (Crystal), and Carolyn Washington; grandchildren, Dr. Ja’Wanda S. Grant, PhD, Dr. Ja’Larna J. Grant, MD, Shauntina P. Smalls, Tashana S. Mitchell, Teonna M. Townsend, Khadasha N. Mitchell, Markendra A. Townsend, Tishaun Washington, Ernie L. Washington, Jr., Terron Washington, Keejaun Matthews, and Erick D. Rivers; three adopted grandchildren, April Nimmons, Terri Johnson, and Brittany Smith; his adopted daughter and caregiver, Chamellow L. Failey; his niece and caregiver; Candra C. Collins, one sister-in-law, Sandra Failey Collins; two brothers-in-law, Henry Failey and Ernie Michael Failey; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, New St. John family, ministers, and friends whom he loved dearly.
